The highlight of Hawker Beechcraft’s lineup of aircraft at this years Sun ‘n Fun event was the all new King Air 250. They have six different models on display at this years event but undoubtedly the one that has received the most attention has been the King Air 250, and rightfully so. This model features a host of improvements over its predecessor, the King Air 200GT. The changes that have been made to the all new King Air 250 are a direct result of the company listening to customers feedback and incorporating these suggestions into the newly designed aircraft.
The major changes that were made include new BLR Aerospace winglets that are made of composite materials, lightweight composite material propellers and a modified intake system that results in increased engine performance. All of these changes were aimed at improving the aircraft’s performance capabilities. The feedback that the company received about the King Air 200GT was that the overall range and cruising speed were adequate. However, the aircraft was lacking in overall performance and power. The goal of the new changes was to allow the Hawker King Air 250 aircraft the ability to land and takeoff on shorter runways, thus allowing access to a greater number of smaller airports.
The newly designed Hawker King Air 250 boasts take off distances, at sea level, that are approximately 400 feet shorter than its predecessor. The aircraft’s take off distances are even more impressive at hot/high runways. Takeoff from a runway at 5,000 feet above sea level and 25 degrees Celsius is 700 feet less than the 200GT, which makes this a huge improvement. Hawker Beechcraft estimates that these improvements will allow their customers access to an additional 1,100 airports that were inaccessible by previous models.
Hawker Aircraft has certainly made meaningful changes in designing the King Air 250, and they have done so without compromising other areas of the aircraft. By listening to their customers and responding to the suggestions they have introduced an aircraft that should be a great success for the company. The Sun ‘n Fun event held in Lakeland, FL is the perfect event for the company to showcase the new design and generate some buzz about the new King Air 250. Company representatives state that the King Air 250 will start being delivered to customers in the later part of 2011. Those lucky enough to own one will no doubt be flying high when they receive this newly designed plane.
