The last few weeks have been a very busy time, to say the least, for Hawaiian Airlines as they have formed a new partnership, taken delivery of a new aircraft, rolled out new fares, and more. This has been a very challenging year for airlines with soaring fuel costs, questions of aircraft safety and other obstacles. That is why it is so important for a carrier such as Hawaiian Airlines to have so many positive things happening with the airline. The most recent of which is the announcement that they will be forming a partnership with Virgin Blue, which is Virgin’s budget subsidiary operating from Australia with the goal of giving Qantas some competition.

The partnership between Hawaiian Airlines and Virgin Blue would expand the international flight offerings for Virgin Blue which will help them with their goal of providing Australian people an alternative to flying with Qantas. Up to this point there have been no solid plans announced as to how many flights will result from the partnership or what routes they will be flying. Virgin Blue officials have been quoted as saying that “you will see us put out those new flights to Hawaii from Australia shortly”. This quote indicates that they are definitely pushing to get this partnership started as soon as possible in order to make a speedy turnaround. There have been no announcements made by Hawaiian Airlines as to the specifics of what they are looking to accomplish with this partnership.

Hawaiian Airlines had eagerly been anticipating the arrival of their newest Airbus A330-200 as was indicated by the fact that three days after taking delivery of the aircraft it completed its first commercial flight. This is the fourth Airbus A330-200 in the Hawaiian Airlines fleet and they are scheduled to take delivery of another one later this year. They are also scheduled to receive three more A330-200′s per year between 2012-2014 and two units in 2015. This is all part of the airline’s plan to expand their fleet, passenger capacity and flight routes. The airline is planning to take delivery of around 30 new Airbus aircraft in the next 9 years as part of their plans for expansion. The new A330-200 that was just delivered is scheduled to fly the airline’s busiest routes from Hawaii to Los Angeles and Hawaii to Las Vegas in the next few months. Within the next year the new aircraft will switch to being used strictly for international flights.

The new Airbus aircraft they will be adding to their fleet will allow the company to fly more international routes and they are already adding some of these routes to their current offerings. They have just started selling tickets for the newest route to Osaka, Japan which will be a non stop flight that is offered daily. Along with other planned destinations for expansion this should help the company meet their goals for increasing the number of flights and passengers they serve in the coming years.
